Shelter Custodian-Eau Claire

The Sojourner House Shelter Custodian is responsible for the following:

  • Keeps building and property in clean and orderly condition.
  • Performs heavy cleaning duties.
  • Sweeps, mops, scrubs, or vacuums floors.
  • Gathers and empties trash.
  • Scrubs, sanitizes, and supplies restroom facilities.
  • Dusts furniture, walls, and equipment.
  • Cleans windows, mirrors, and partitions with soap and other cleansers.
  • Mixes cleaning solutions and chemicals in containers in preparation for cleaning, according to instructions.
  • Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power machinery to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
  • Cleans and polishes fixtures and furniture.
  • Shampoos or steam-cleans carpets and rugs.
  • Cleans and polishes furniture and fixtures.
  • Assists morning staff with check out of guests.
  • Manages inventory of cleaning and other shelter supplies.
  • Notifies managers regarding the need for repairs or additions to building operating systems.
  • Do shelter laundry from night before.
  • May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Keep shelter closets and cabinets organized and functional.
  • Checks fridges and freezers for dates on food, and disposes of any expired items.
  • Ensure facility dumpsters are locked and secure at all times and the dumpsters lids are able to be closed.
  • Going with Assistant Coordinator on monthly shelter supply runs.
  • Ensure HVAC vents are cleaned and/or replaced monthly.
  • All other duties as assigned.

The Shelter Custodian shift is 7 am-12 pm, Monday-Friday.
