Adoption

Adoption vs Parenting

Facing an unplanned pregnancy can be scary, difficult and confusing. Deciding what to do may be even harder. If you’re feeling alone, remember you are not the first nor the last woman to go through this. Thousands of women find themselves unexpectedly pregnant every year, and each of them is faced with an important decision to make. Once discovering you are pregnant, there are two paths to consider: adoption or parenting. Catholic Charities helps birthmothers work through these options. We provide free support, counseling and detailed information to guide your decision. The more informed you are, the more confident you will be in your final choice.

It’s important that you make a careful, informed, and educated choice for your unplanned pregnancy. When it comes to choosing between parenting vs. adoption, it’s important to make the choice you believe to be right for you and your child. Parenting is not for everyone, and neither is adoption. Choosing whether to raise or place your child may be one of the most difficult decisions you have to make in your life – because whichever choice you make, you are still a parent with all of a parent’s love in your heart for your child.

Birth parents and adoptive parents both play a crucial role in an adopted child’s life. The majority of birth mothers have some type of contact with their children, so regardless of the choice you make, you will never have to wonder how your child is. If you want to know, you will have that opportunity as long as you select an adoptive family interested in sharing similar contact as you.

Catholic Charities encourages you to know this is YOUR choice to decide what is in the best interest of you and your baby.  At no time will we pressure birthmothers into choosing adoption. We are simply here to offer our guidance, love and support – and to help women become educated on their options.
