Catholic Charities-A Beacon of Hope

Summer is often perceived as a “slow” period for our shelters, but we are actively ensuring that our neighbors still receive the services they need. As you may know, our La Crosse Warming Center opened its doors during the recent flooding, providing a safe haven for those living near the river and marshes. We received no external government financial assistance to do this, but we knew it was the right thing to do. Additionally, we are excited to offer day services at the La Crosse Warming Center this year, allowing individuals to take showers, do their laundry, and escape the heat on certain days of the week. Thank you to the local parishes that have given or have pledged to give to help us cover the cost of this effort!

With rising temperatures, unpredictable weather, and an economy that continues to challenge many in our community, Catholic Charities is serving more people in the greater Wausau and Eau Claire areas than ever before. In Wausau we are also providing day services to those in need in our community. Individuals can receive lunch, find a safe place to stay cool, and connect to other services that support them on their journey toward greater independence. Thank you to the City of Wausau for partnering with us to make these day services possible.

While we are proud to offer these extra minisitries, our expenses continue to increase along with the summer temperatures. We are also finding that because of the increased need of our services, more space is needed to fulfill our mission. Despite these challenges, we remain steadfast in our faith that our community will join us in demonstrating Christ’s love through our programs. We kindly ask for your generosity to help us keep the La Crosse Warming Center, The Good Shepherd Shelter and the Sojourner House a Beacon of Hope in our communities. If you can increase your donation, rest assured it will be put to excellent use. If a financial contribution is not possible at this time, we humbly request that you keep us in your prayers as we carry out the Lord’s work in our community.

Thank you, and God Bless.
