Como dice el Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica, "La Cuaresma es el tiempo penitencial primaria en el año litúrgico de la Iglesia, reflejando Los cuarenta días que pasó Jesús en el desierto en ayuno y oración ". Por el ayuno, Jesús muestra su humanidad y nos enseña la importancia del sacrificio, abnegación y llevar a nuestras necesidades básicas humanas bajo el control de nuestra voluntad. Pero también nos dice que nuestra voluntad por sí sola no puede hacerlo. Tenemos que estar en contacto con Dios mediante la oración que la fuerza de larga duración real viene de arriba.

Jesús, como nosotros, también fue tentado por el diablo. He understands what we go through every day. He knows our weaknesses and shows us the way to overcome temptation. Lent is the time to look deep into ourselves and find what keeps us away from God; what habits we have which have turned to vices and enslaved us. Es un tiempo para meditar en nuestro egoísmo; how we are more concerned with our feelings than what we can be and do for others. Por ejemplo, when we get to work in the morning and we are tired, how do we react to our coworkers that are asking for help? When we get home and have to help with the dishes, limpieza, o simplemente escuchar; when all we might want to do is put our feet up and have a beer. ¿Qué determina lo que vamos a hacer, nuestros sentimientos o nuestra voluntad?

La Cuaresma es el momento del año en que Cristo nos invita a entrar en el desierto. He is offering us a time to pray, para estar a solas con Dios y poner en orden nuestras vidas. He will always give us the strength and wisdom to do what is right and make those around us happy. La oración requiere que silenciamos nuestros corazones, nuestra mente y nuestro espíritu, so we can listen to God and understand what He wants to make us happy. He wants to give us His joy. Él quiere amarnos. Lent is an opportunity through sacrifice and penance to purify our feelings and bring our thoughts and actions closer to Christ.
