After School – Lead Support Specialist (La Crosse)

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the program coordinator the Lead Support Specialist provides support to participants in the form of mentoring, skill development, and behavior management. Lead Support Specialists will help onboard referrals, create participant’s schedules, and train Support Specialists. In addition, Lead S.S. will help maintain a safe environment for participants to participate in varying activities.

SKILL AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
a) Education-Bachelor’s Degree in human services field such as psychology, social work, or recreation preferred.
b) Experience with persons with developmental disabilities preferred.
c) Knowledgeable of and competent with a variety of positive, proactive behavior management techniques.
d) Exhibits leadership qualities.
e) Displays compassion and respect for others.
f) Commitment to the mission and values of Catholic Charities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
a) Facilitates daily setup and closing of the After School Program
b) Uses a variety of positive, proactive behavior management techniques.
c) Provides one on one direction and support to participants and support specialist.
d) Ability to adapt to participant’s needs as they change.
e) Maintains accurate, logs, units of service, and behavior support plans.
f) Create/implement daily schedules, and program activities.
g) Uses a variety of positive, proactive behavior management techniques.
h) Conducts self in a professional manner, without supervision in working.
i) Communicates with the coordinator as changes develop with participants.
j) Provides transportation for students when necessary.
k) Handle petty cash, and track and order supplies as needed.
l) Other duties, as appropriate, and assigned by supervisor.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
a) Must be prepared for physical interaction with participants.
b) May spend 50%-75% of the day on feet or moving.
c) Ability to move quickly to prevent a participant from leaving a designated area.
d) Must be comfortable using physical restraint upon receiving CPI training.
