I work at the Sojourner House in Eau Claire in Building Maintenance. A couple of years ago I lost everything. I was homeless and unemployed. I heard about the Sojourner House and I spent my first weekend walking around, loving what I saw and decided that was where I wanted to settle down and live my life. I ended up being a resident of Sojourner House for about a year. During that time the staff was extremely helpful in getting me my ID and other paperwork, as well as all my medical and dental taken care of. I went to the Job Center and attended seminars, signed up with Workforce Resource and soon enrolled in an 8 week Mechanical Training Academy they offered in conjunction with CVTC. During that time, I chose my career and enrolled in the Industrial Mechanical Technician program at CVTC and enrolled in summer courses. Shortly thereafter, a room opened at the Inn Towne, and soon after that a position at the Sojourner House opened up. I was asked if I would like to join the staff. So I now have a place to stay, I am employed and I just started my second semester of school learning my new career!
